BBC Radio 1 Veteran coach Tim Westwood has reportedly been charged with multiple sexual assault charges, which allegedly occurred from 1992 to 2017. Posted in a joint investigation by The Guardian and the BBC, several women are opening up about Westwood’s opportunistic and predatory sexual behavior. Westwood denied all charges, and his spokesperson also withdrew all allegations to the media. The women who have come forward claim Westwood used his industrial power to take advantage of them, many of those accusers in their twenties at the time of the assault.
Westwood, 64, launched the UK’s first regular hip-hop radio show in 1994 and has been considered an inspiration to fans of the genre around the world. Westwood was also respected throughout the industry; an esteem and influence he wielded to manipulate women, according to his accusers.
“It could make or break your career,” says one of the alleged victims. “If you wanted to get any kind of exposure, you would try to get your demo to him and pray he would play it. He had absolute power.
Westwood was previously recognized as Britain’s best radio DJ three times between 2000 and 2005, and left the BBC in 2013, after nearly two decades.
