Armed machos attack Radio Ada
MP for Sege condemns attack on media
A deputy asks the IGP to prosecute the perpetrators of the attack on Radio Ada
Sege MP Christian Corletey Otuteye has condemned the attack on Radio Ada by suspected thugs during talks over the Songhor Lagoon project in the Greater Accra region.
According to him, he will not allow the media to be coerced by some supposed “criminals” in the region.
He therefore called on the police inspector, George Akufo-Dampare to open an investigation with immediate effect so that the perpetrators are arrested and punished.
In a press release, the MP said “I strongly condemn this barbaric, primitive and lawless act, and call on the Inspector General of Police and the Ada Enclave Police Department to immediately investigate and prosecution of all involved. As a representative of the people of Sege, who benefit from the Station, I will not sit down for the media to be coerced, terrorized and suffocated by the whims and whims of certain criminals. Unjustified attacks and brutality by the media and their stations can no longer go unpunished. »
On Thursday, burly masked men attacked Radio Ada, a community radio station in Ada Foah in the Greater Accra region, and ransacked its broadcast studio without provocation.
The raid follows persistent warnings given to the station by some chiefs in the region, to shut down their broadcasts over a project led by businessman Daniel McKorley (McDan) which involves the Songhor salt lagoon.
The thugs, numbering around 10 according to some station staff, stormed the premises of the non-profit FM station around 11:30 a.m. on January 13, 2022 and ransacked everything.
They manhandled a staff member called Ajawutor Korle and forced their way into the studio by breaking down the door.
They then ransacked the studio, dismantled the Consul and fled before the police could arrive to arrest them.
The badly beaten staff members were taken to hospital for medical treatment after an official report was filed with the police by the radio station.
Below is his statement
STATEMENT BY MP SEGE ON ADA RADIO ATTACK AND DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY
The office of the MP for Sege is extremely outraged by reports of unknown armed “macho” men who attacked our community radio station (Radio Ada 93.3) on Thursday January 13, 2022.
These thugs allegedly manhandled, assaulted and held hostage at gunpoint presenters and a guest during their barbaric attack on the station.
The heavily built masked men smashed broadcast equipment and damaged several other machines, furniture and more.
I strongly condemn this barbaric, primitive and lawless act, and call on the Inspector General of Police and the Ada Enclave Police Department to immediately investigate and prosecute all those involved.
As a representative of the people of Sege, who benefit from the Station, I will not sit down for the media to be coerced, terrorized and suffocated by the whims and whims of certain criminals.
The unwarranted attack and brutality of the media and their stations can no longer go unpunished.
I further urged the good people of Sege and Ada to stand firm in unity to resist every act of intimidation and lawlessness.
