Residents of Sulfur Springs held a June 19 celebration Saturday with a parade, games, food and fellowship at Pacific Park in Sulfur Springs.

First thing Saturday morning, the June 19, 2022 celebration kicked off with the 2nd annual Semi-2k Race to Freedom held for those

Things then moved on to Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where people tied up their decorated vehicles and floats in preparation for the June 19 parade at 11 a.m. The motorcade passed through the neighboring district, passing and then passing again through Pacific Park. Among the entries were the June 11 winners Juneteenth Pageant, a vintage car and ATVs, as well as those from churches, businesses, daycare and individuals. Many threw candy, beads and other items at the children eagerly waiting along the street for these prizes as the parade passed their location

While everyone was busy running and enjoying the parade on June 19, 2022, several members of the community were busy grilling food on large barbecue grills for all to enjoy. Others brought snacks, snow cones, popcorn and other items to share. Water was available to help participants stay hydrated. Picnic tables provided seating for those who did not bring their own. A DJ played music from a stage set up in the middle of the park.

Some community members brought their own tents to provide shade in the triple-digit temperature. A religious group was part of these sports games. A few tents contained goods from local businesses. Columbia Lodge #81 gave away tickets for a chance to win the raffle four-wheeler as a fundraiser for charities, foster families and scholarships by Help-A-Child Benefit on third Saturday in October (the 15th in 2022).

The kids enjoyed the new playground equipment recently installed and crossing the wading pool to stay cool at Pacific Park, both are part of a multi-phase city improvement project at the park.

Many stayed late in the day to play games, catch up with friends and family, and even make new friends at the June 18, 2022 celebration held in Pacific Park on March 18.
