Mary G. Spangler64 of DuBois, PA died on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.
Born April 21, 1958 in DuBois, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William A. and the late Rita (Reinsel) Spangler, Sr.
Mary was a graduate of Central Christian High School and DuBois Business College.
She had worked for many years at Prontock Beer Distributing, Inc. in DuBois.
She was also a member of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Siena. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was a heroic fighter. She was a four-time cancer survivor and frequently received bad medical news, but she went through it all with courage and determination.
Mary was indulgent with her young nieces and nephews. In one instance, she gave two of them yarn to play with and they hung the yarn wherever they could, turning her bedroom into a multicolored spider’s web.
Although she did not travel physically, Mary enjoyed traveling mentally by amassing a formidable collection of postcards. Plus, she enjoyed learning about the iconic sinking of the Titanic liner.
Mary was skilled in several types of crafts including cross stitch, crochet and lock picking. A particularly distinctive project were the two sister pillows she made with her sister-in-law, Joyce. Each collaborator sewed two copies of a scene. Next, Joyce used one of her scenes and one of Mary to make two pillows. Then they each took a pillow.
Mary is survived by her siblings; (William A. Spangler, Jr. and wife Joyce of Quakertown, PA, Kathy Kowalczyk and husband Paul of Hawley, PA and Nick Spangler and wife Karen of York, PA), two nieces (Kara Kowalczyk and husband Zack and Tiffany Spangler), and three nephews (Dan Kowalczyk and Brett and Ryan Spangler).
Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
A Christian burial mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Saint Catherine Roman Catholic Church in Siena with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
