Prairie Lakes AEA Staff Member Receives I-CASE Award

Julie Meyer, a special education consultant with the Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency, received an Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Board of Special Education Administrators.

The reward is presented to individuals who make a significant contribution to programs and services for students with disabilities. Meyer was nominated by Prairie Lakes AEA Regional Administrator Valerie Jergens.

“Julie has worked as a special education consultant for Prairie Lakes AEA schools, served as chair of the special education consulting department, and held many leadership roles throughout her career,” says Jergens.

Jergens noted Meyer’s understanding of systems work, building useful relationships, and willingness to ask and act on feedback about his work. As head of the department, Meyer was involved in mentoring and onboarding new consultants. His support for these people included both high expectations for learning and practice, and caring for them.

“Throughout her work, Julie never lost sight of the purpose of the work impacting children’s lives,” says Jergens.

The Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency serves school districts in counties such as Buena Vista, Calhoun, Clay, Pocahontas, and Sac.
